I would like to firstly thank and congratulate these forums on being most helpful assisting me with countless questions and help needed on our 'project' On with the topic... we have a new staircase fitted, a simple pine and mdf type.

The back of the stairs will be visible to the rooms as we wanted to use the space underneath for shelves etc. My question really is what whould I use to finish the back i.e. cover up the treads? I thought on big sheet of mdf cut to size, maybe some ply or maybe a sort of acryllic (egger) sheet? Something that can be painted or left and will give a clean and modern look?

Ply or mdf if its being painted.
