I have a 7 1/2" drop under my bath plug which then runs into a 90 bend and then down the system after a few meters joins the soil pipe. All is well except the 90 bend below the plug was leaking so I replaced it with a rubber joint with jubilee clips which stopped the leak, but then the screw fitting where the 40mm pipe meets the under side of the plug began to leak although it is difficult to reach I managed to stem a pretty forceful leak to a drip but then the leak moved to the over flow pipe. It seems to be the amount of pressure from releasing the bath water is too much for these joint, are there any tricks of the trade that I can use to make these water tight. I am working through the ceiling at the moment and need to seal it back up so I need to know that it won't leak ( as sure as I can be ) what about solvent?? Many thanks in advance.

Firstly that is a great diagram, well done Thumbright

I fitted a bath once and had the very same problem.

There should be a tapered washer that seals the pipe into the trap, it is best if this is pushed into place before tightening the nut. The pipe needs to be straight going into the fitting. Check the condition of the washers also. The washer needs to be the correct way around.

If the washer is seated correctly and it is still leaking I would seal the pipe in with silicone sealant, give it a couple of hours to dry and then push the washer up, with a bit more silicone and then tighten the nuts up again.

Thank you for your advice. I think a mixture of the two ideas.
1. check/renew washers
2. Fernox
3. Pray !!!
Thanks, I will let you know how it works out.
