Busy five or six weeks. Completed this kitchen and flooring along with a larger kitchen and floor with a couple of other floors thrown in.

No surprise for Howdens and their top of the range designers, I had to reconfiger it slightly. Work tops were changed from laminate to solid and plinth lights were not fitted. She originally asked for solid top and said she didn't want plinth lights. Perhaps designers should listen.

Worktops had a pencil round applied to top and bottom edges of work tops with a shamfered stop. All other solid tops, shelf and chopping boards received pencil round to top and bottom.

I wasn't happy that I was told it was an 8 day job pmsl. Needles to say that I put the main contractor right, as I normally have to do. They hadn't figured on as much electrical work being done, concrete walls, stripping wall paper and the making good etc etc.

Client was happy and a pleasure to serve.

I was aghast at the tile colour....grey........they were cream in the shop. Even the spares are cream but when you hold them next to the fixed ones, they look grey. Again, luckily the client likes them but is also amazed how they change colour.

the tiles do look cream when the main lights are on, they just look a little grey in the last pic with the extractor/cupboard lamps on

Very nice :thumbright:

I have a small kitchen to replace here, but before I do that I think I'll have to tank the kitchen with some kind of slurry as the floor level outside is just below the height of the window (all houses on this side of the street are the same). There is also a small diagonal chimney in one corner which makes fitting the units hard work (might remove that).

Then I think I'll open an account with Howdens as every time I park my van somewhere they always leave me a couple of brochures! Having seen a few Howdens kitchens installed in here they look very good

Only problem is that I might have to do the bathroom first

Very nice mate, I like

quick Q.. the round wooden 'mats' for the kettle etc..

did you make these out of left over worktop?

I have just installed wooden tops in my kitchen and have a ton of left over material

would like to make some chopping boards / mats like those :thumbright:

I made the chopping boards out of the waste left over from the sink and drainer.

I could have made some bigger ones also, but they tend to be a bit on the heavy side

Leave the chimney as this will be a nice feature.

Did you pack out the units or wall to get the width right without any filler panels? or are the corner posts custom made rather than standard?

Tidy job :thumbright:

As you look at the kitchen the left hand units were cut back and also the worktop to suit. Originally the Howdens undesigner had a corner post left and a lash up of end panels right to make the corner. needless to say her idea got shoved out the window as it would have looked pants.

Boxing in received extra double layer of plasterboard to one side and single on the other and this made the wall units sit better. Couldn't see the point in a 25mm and a 15mm fillet. Board it to suit and do away with them.

Nice it worked out that way, but as you know, it isn't always the case. in fact it is probably very rare to be able to get top and bottom runs like that. Especially with most clients as they don't want to lose space even if it is only 10mm or 25mm. They don't get the idea that no unit space will be lost. They just hone in on a 'smaller' kitchen lol

It's a bit of a pain to be honest, if you fit a corner base unit you have to cut the corner off it. The chimney also prevents you from having a corner wall unit. Venting the cooker hood is also obstructed by the chimney, you can see it in the right corner of this picture-

There are ways around it, but I can see what you mean.

I presumed it was a nice size, as in, a good feature.

Instead of a 1000 base unit with a 500 door you could use it and move the mullion and have a 600 door. Corner for wall units could be formed also.

I would be tempted to take it out as well.
