Hi All, I have shiplap on the front and rear of my semi detached house and I'm not sure when it needs treating. It looks a bit grey in one corner but otherwise is still the brown colour the same as the rest of the houses here. We've been here for a year but I have put off treating it because it is awkward at the rear because the previous owners put a conservatory along the whole back of the house. It's impossible to reach the walls from upstairs windows as the large ones don't open and the conservatory roof is the thick but hollow square tubular sort of sheets which I'm not sure would take a mans weight.

Should I get a builder in with scaffolding to do the treating? If so would it be a good idea to get plastic shiplap put up instead and save in the longrun?

Any advice would be gratefully recieved

:help:

If it only needs treating with wood preserver can you not cover everything up with plastic sheeting and spray it using a garden sprayer- one of the large hozelock ones etc.?

Thanks for your reply,

I would need to cover everything up but the main problem is reaching over the conservatory. It is the whole width of the house and about 12 feet deep so it keeps me away from the wall that needs treating. As I can't lean out of any windows I cannot cover them and they would be bound to get sprayed too. The windows sit in amongst the shiplap which is really awkward.

My concern is being able to stand on the conservatory or not because I wouldn't want to get spray on the neighbours windows, patio, plants etc (not to mention the white guttering and downpipes.

Is there anything I can do?

Might be a scaffolding job or a couple of scaffolding towers with staging and handrails over the conservatory.

Cheers,
Another job for warmer weather I suppose, better do some fundraising between then and now to hire the scaffolding.

Best Regards,
