Anyone know how to get the brushes out of this B&D drill KD354E
You cane see from the pic that the 2 brass lugs (pointing back) appear to be embedded in plastic.

They look like they have been geting warm.

I think they will slide out in the direction of the arrow, you might have to lever them with a slotted screwdriver.

I dont think it will easeout by moving forward as there is a small `lug` (arrowed, barely visible, white dust covered.) that looks like it would prevent this. Also the assembly looks like it slides down behind a plastic strip on either side just below the lug.

somtimes if the drill has been stored over winter in a cold damp shed the brushes glaze over
this causes excessive arcing and no power where as before it was fine
when you get the brushes out take a picture and show us :thumbright:

big-all...

Its not glazed over as one of the springs has dislodged, probably because the brush has worn right down, so either way I need to get them out and replace the brushes.

I wonder if the pic below gives a clue, this is a diagram for the spare parts and it shows the `holder` for the brush with the top part open so maybe I just prise this open to access for the brush & spring.

Looking at it again from the top, you don't unscrew it by putting a small slotted screwdriver through the hole on the top do you?

Definitely not as I just took the bull by the horns and prised it open just enough to get the bits out and there was no screw.
1 brush is worn to almost nothing and the other has gone with just the spring in it. That explains why it stopped working when I was using it.
Just need to source the equivelent parts now as I believe they stopped making this drill about 10 years ago, shouldnt be too difficult.

I still cant work out how the `holder` comes off though, looking at the 1st pic those lugs pointing back stop any movement up or down and a little brass lug stops it moving forward. Not so important now though as I can replace the brushes without taking it off, but I hate being beat. :-(

To close this off now. I ended as stated above prising the top brass part to get access to the brushes, I then emailed B&D who advised me the parts were not made now and there were no compatible parts, so much for customer service.
Anyhow I got equivelent parts on ebay for £5, just went for the same dimensions.
Put the brushes in and pushed the top brass part back into place.
Drill now working again.

Thanks all for your contributions.
