I am cutting out some plasterboard from an attic knee wall to make a storage cupboard.

The uprights are 4 x 2 and i plan to cut them flush with the edges and any cross bits fit some noggins so it has strength at the opening. I plan to fit some sort of hinged door, but am open to suggestions.

But how would i finish these edges with plaster?

Have cut it out now, don't worry about right hole, i was going to do two, but have since decided against it as its a good corner for units.

So i can cut plasterboard to the edges but do i stick some sort of beading on???

Option 1) Return plasterboard, tape and joint, then use a door which sits flush on the front.

Option 2) Cut board out, put frame in and finish with architrave.

So option 1 you are saying line it like a window reveal with plasterboard and put edging bead around the opening.

Option 2, i would just finish the edges as though it was an end, like at skirting level, then make a frame to slot in and over.

option 1................like a reveal but you use corner tape and not plaster bead.

Option 2................same as detail for a normal door frame.

Just depends what sort of door and finished detail you want.

I get what you mean now, so make a liner all round so it overhangs slightly to plaster too, then fit architrave after.

Option 2 would be more the look i'm after as its the only way i can see of getting a door on. Just makes the hatch a little bit smaller though.

Would look a bit neater than the rough 4x2's i used.

I have a spare 4 inch liner so thats great.
Also will use this principle for some loft hatches too.

Make sure those rough 4x2s' are not supporting anything, such as the purlin, first!!

Yes option 2 is same set up as normal internal doors. frame flush and then architrave.

Many ways to get a door on. Option 1 would be good for a set up as per kitchen unit door. One upright goes in for the crucifixes ad door sits on surface of plasterboard. You could even have an access panel instead, dependent on frequency of access.

I will be adding the frame to sit inside the 4 x 2's. The plasterboard will sit upto the frame.
