Hi. I've just added a 3.3m length self over the kitchen worktop. It's made the kitchen work top a bit darker than ideal. I think some under side lighting would be a great solution. I've already got a number of Philips Hue bulbs so I was looking at their Strip light which comes in 2m length with extra 1m extensions at additional cost. I've already seen that you can solder two pieces of strip light together to create a lighting gap (contrary to Philips official support), I'd just have to do a bit of soldering. So I was just wondering if people know how much lighting length I'd need for 3.3m length? I was thinking I might be able to cut the 2m light in half and use a space of about 40cm at both ends and in between. This would avoid me buying an extension. But I wasn't sure if the 40cm gaps would create annoying dark spots. Any thoughts?

As you have not had an answer I thought I would take a look and my opinion is the light strip is just an effects lighting hardly a worktop aid!

I lost hope getting an answer so I bit the bullet and purchased the 2m strip light along with a 1m extension. I watched a few YouTube videos and saw the affect of having a slight gap (as it creates darker spots which detract the look). Also, given the extension was only an extra £22, I didn't want to skimp out on it for that small cost. I should clarify, the under shelf light isn't just an effect, it's actually an aid because that's where most of the food prep will be happening and I felt it wasn't light enough. The hue strip light is amazing though because it adds so much light (it's actually brighter than it was before the shelf which is great). And it has the added bonus of turning down the light or changing the colour for some mood lighting.
