Just wondered really.
My steel toe cap "timberland style" (steel toe cap heel up to ankle heights boots) have never worn out after 5 years of abuse.
But my rigging boots have only lasted two years.
Went for dickies rigging boots this time to see how they fare up!

Yea 5 years is good i suppose! They have a steel plate on the bottom and steel toe, they are also fireproof/resistant not sure.
I had the trainer type once but didnt really feel that "safe", but it my current boots ive dropped all sorts on it and half the time dont even notice!

12 months tops, no matter what brand, they all fail the same. I could get 18 months out of a pair, but they end up with wet feet.
Hot metal sparks doesn't help them much. The stiching usually burns out.

i normally get through a pair in 12-18 months or so, first thing that goes on mine nearly always is the sole splits making them leak :(

I've had a pair of Scruffs, for over 3 years now and as good as new. Hardly ware them since I retired, but that wasn't in the question.

I hate to think how you take care of your tools if boots only last a year! Im really anal with keeping things in good nick though. I regually clean all my tools (and polish my spanners ) The only tool that's dirty of mine is my mixer for plaster/cement/adhesive/grout. Same applies to my boots!

its a trade off between the weight of the boots and how long they last. These lightweight ones get holes in the leather just behind the steel toe cap. I still have my CAT boots from a few years ago (i think I have had them for 3 or so years), but my legs started aching all the time with the extra weight on my feet. I cant think how these fat people feel carrying all that extra food around with them!

fastest i went through a pair of boots was 6 days, got presented with new boots, can't remember make but they were dark brown but the leather was too soft, after 6 days i had steel showing & they were no longer safe to wear on a filling station forecourt, got given rigger boots after that it's usually the toes of the boots & the knees on the boiler suits that give up first (my knees gave up years ago so now have the knee pads that fit in the trousers

Mine are cheapies from Aldi/Lidl. Uppers, steel toecaps, are fine, but the soles and heels are going spongy and crumbling after about 3 years.
