Been doing a kitchen/utility for a couple, the last person that done it did an amazing job lol! Painted everything! From cupboards to washing machine and I don't mean little brush hairs that may have skimmed it! He needed the job done in a certain time frame and completed blah blahblah, anyway..... How far would you have gone to remove the old paint off units etc...... There is a clear difference in the two colours so I'm not gonna get collared but out of curiosity?????
I'd have removed it myself (if time allowed which it didn't).

I've had that. Sometimes I have removed the old paint and sometimes not. Depends on how I am getting on with the customer and it depends on how much paint there is.

There was crap loads of it! ::b
he knew I was on a time scale, which he set but would have been nice to 'finish' it.

Depends how easy the paint was to get off. I usually
try to remove the previous careless decorators paint -
it goes down well with customers.

Its all part of the job, sanding out runs/sags, cleaning paint off electrical fittings etc, otherwise it looks like you've done it which is not good for business.

Quite agree, my time scale didn't warrant it unfortunately, bloke chuffed as nuts though, and I would normally. That's probably the worse ive seen from a previous.

Me too but I make it clear to the customer that I've spent x hours getting old paint off fittings so as to achieve a professional finish!

It also looks good...nothing worse than seeing a light switch with one colour paint all round it after you have painted the wall with another...I always scrape the old paint off..it looks shabby otherwise.

Paint splattered light switches / plug sockets are a real bug bear - I have to clean them up.

If there was old paint all over units / appliances I'd probably clean it off as I go, it would wind me up to leave it.

Yes. And you can't even vent your spleen by demanding to know which cretin decorated last time, in case it was the customer himself.

When I first started many moons back part of my job as a trainee was to take off window catches and door handles etc and clean all the old paint off.

I wasnt on very much money and I suppose my boss could afford to have me doing those little jobs without being out of pocket.
