Hi Guy's
Would love some sound advice have just finished making my spare room into a dining room, but to my horror have now discovered that my dining table which was stored in my garage has lots of little chips and some of the paint has come off the sides exposing a little of the wood. It is purely cosmetic damage and needs a little paint job, my problem is what type of paint would i use as i obviously wish to avoid watermarks etc., and i assume to get the best finish i would use a roller or pad!! The colour of the table is black (was a matt! but being a neat freek! in the past it has a little shine to it with my polishing of course lol!!!)
So any help would be very much appreciated and i promise to be a good girl and be less liberal with the polish "Honest"
TaTa For now!

A 'Nice girl' theres a first!
Easy'st way is to use Diamond paint from Dulux, tools wise not a problem, just the usual prep required.
Nice girl indeed _________________ I'm not a roman mum, I'm a kike, a yid, a heebie, a hook-nose, I'm kosher mum, I'm a Red Sea pedestrian, and proud of it! |

That polish might be quite a problem. If you have ever used a silicon polish on there or a spray wax you will have an adhesion problem...IOW it will chip...in fact silicon polish can stop some paints from drying at all and leave them sticky forever.
We paint a lot of furniture and run into this problem in a way that most P&D's don't. I now don't take any chances and clean with every solvent around because the thought of a paint failure like I have seen in the past is just dull and for all the extra time it takes...well to me it's worth it.
So....I'm a bit of a belt and braces gal but then I am being paid to do this and I don't want comeback from a client...you may decide that some of this is unecessary..but this is what I would do, and it really won't take more than about 20-30 minutes
Use a spongey scratch pad..a kitchen one (and put gloves on for this) and use white spirit and scrub the surface really well. Then I use very hot water and sugar soap and wet sand the surface with that and finally I wipe over the whole surface with methylated spirits. Hopefully it's clean by now.
I would probably use an adhesion primer too...but that's up to you.
Actually I am about to do semi matt black tables for a restaurant and I am hoping that Dulux's Trade heat resistant paint is a little on the matt side because it's black and perfect for the job, I'm going to pick some up tomorrow I can let you know if you like.

Hi guy's
Many thanks for your sound advice it was very much appreciated alls looking good in the old dining room now apart from the table lol!! Cait would be very glad to hear how you got on with your Dulux Heat resistant paint. I am not able to get my paint till next week anyway due to work commitments so i would love your views. I probably would class myself as a kind of cut corners type of gal, hence interior design is a hobby with me lol! so i don't see me running my own business any time soon lol!!!!! My husband informed me that my table was originally semi matt when i got it so i can't take all the blame lol!! however many thanks for your help, now all i have to worry about is that the food lives up to the room lol!!
Have a nice one
