I am looking to build a conservatory on the back of my house and need to find the DPC. The house was built in 1939. Would it necessarily have a DPC ? There are air bricks, would it be located above or below these? What would it look like? (slate ?)

Any help appreciated, Thanks[/b]

In a house built in 1939 the DPC should sit on top of the air-bricks, but not gaurenteed to be there. It will be a sort of black line running along the mortar course and as you suggest it might be slate, but unlikely in a house of that period.

You may find it covered with a thicker pointed bed joint.
