Hi. I am a weekend DIYer, and am having a hard time deciding between these two drills, Hitachi DV18DVC and Dewalt DC100KA, both for under £100:

http://nextday.diy.com/app/jsp/product/ ... ctId=73596

The Dewalt is actually the DC725KA, but B&Q sell it as the DC100KA, don't know why.

The Hitachi has one extra battery and a torch, but the Dewalt a higher top speed and bpm, which I found on the Dewalt website.

Are Hitachi drills well respected by tradesmen, because I know Dewalt are.

Please help!!

As you are a "weekend DIYer" then it shouldn't make much difference what the top speed is because you will not be on a timed-job.

I have got the Hitachi and find with three batteries it is always ready for use. And the torch is a godsend at times in those dark corners and under floorboards. Unlike a normal torch, the batteries are never flat just when you need it most and the shops are shut for replacements.

I now live in a Park Home so the only masonary I have that may need drilling is the outside steps. The Hitachi was very handy when I put up new ballbalustrades on the front steps.

having had the dewalt and now own a hitatchi DV18DL i would say the hitachi is a better machine.
+ you get a extra battery so there will never be any downtime,

with the dewalt i recon you can use a battery faster than the other one charges
