Thanks for all the extra advice guys I will get some plug cutters (I need to get some, always handy) and some 2 part filler. I'll then use some off cuts to practise with the secret screwing, filling with a 2 part filler and pluging.

I'm sure I can get at least one of those methods down to a tee and allow me to achieve an acceptable finish!

Alexander I would appreciate a video if possible, at least I can see how its done by a master then! :salute:

Would you prefer a video on how to do it on skirting, timber in general, or mdf?

using hand presure with a wooden block is fine. and it only takes 5-10 sec to go off. :huray: i suppose when you do it all the time you can get it down to an art. i can do it this way faster than it takes me to pilot whole/ counter sink, mix up the filler/ apply it, and then sand it off. but thats just me. :dunno:

I suppose, but most of the skirtings I do these days (commercial/shops fit, etc) are MDF, which doesn't really respond to the hidden nailing approach, or hardwood, which generally needs plugging to make a good job. I'm no fan of softwood skirtings - most of the stuff coming from the merchants at this time of year is wet and just itching to shrink once the central heating goes on. In any case when installing a couple of thousand feet I'd never be able to get the appropriate amount of Mitre mate out of the contracts manager!

Whatever is easiest for you mate, as long as I can get the general idea. I got an idea from your instructions on here but sometimes I think it is easier to understand from a video eg. on how hard to tap the chisel and the angle

Cheers
