Hello all,

Can anybody tell me the function of the recess(es) on hex shank driver bits/bit holders? I was looking at one earlier and couldn't for the life of me figure out why it is there. I'm sure there is an obvious answer I'm not seeing! Pictured attached for example.

It's for bit holders that use a detent ball to retain the shank.

Thanks for your reply. I just want to make sure we're talking about the same bit (no pun intended)...

Take a look at this photo - this has two of the recessed I'm talking about on the shank.
