You should only buy small quantities of herbs and spices to maintain optimum flavour and freshness. If you are a caterer uses lots then fine, otherwise it is a false saving.

around here the only real choice is silly supermarket packets where you pay 10 to 20 times the price of bulk

i used to buy them from a chinese supermarket in edinburugh but since my dad moved down here i have no cheap accomodation in edinburgh

i am well aware of diminishing strength and by 18 months your around half strength :thumbright:

within 18 months all the herbs will be gone most off the pepper with my use alone

i have several freinds that love my home made chillie oil with paprika and mint
bitrthday presents are a simple predictable afair from me :thumbright: with 25/50/75/100/125 grams of herbs and spices according to personal needs

i can give away 75% and still save money :thumbright:

If it is a strong mix maybe it should be in Plumbing, Drainage and 'How to Unblock drains'

I find them much cheaper from the weigh shop.....and also you can get very good bargains from Julian Graves.

For herbs, I'd agree with Bluds; I grow a selection in my garden. But spices are a different matter. They'll keep. Traditionally, they used to travel by land from the East Pacific islands to Europe, which must have taken months.

A dozen vanilla pods for £5.75? That's a good buy.
