About a Week ago i noticed that two of my downstairs radiators were barely warm on the top and cold on the bottom. I tried bleeding them, but nothing. Tried turning off the other downstairs rad, but this didnt work. It has steadilly got worse. Have now drained down the whole system and and flushed out one radiator downstairs and replaced the pump. I now have a hot radiator in the bathroom,(this is the first rad in the run, and warmth in two of the bedroom radiators. My system is being fed by a glow worm back boiler inset BBU 40 on a one pipe system. Archaic i know, but until a week ago it was working fine. Hope this is enough information for you. If not please ask. Any suggestions would be great! Many thanks.

Going to need a lot of information.

What radiator valves do you have for a start.

Has any work been done prior to the problem.

Wont be in much today but will pick up as and when.

Taking the rads outside and flushing them would be a good start.

As Scruff says. Also have you noticed any kettling or banging noises coming from the boiler?
When was the boiler last serviced.?
Has the temperature setting on the boiler been altered?

Normal valves fitted to all but one radiator. A thermostatic valve on one bedroom rad. Had no problems with the boiler prior to this and no noise or banging. The one radiator was flushed because at the time it was the last one in the run that had any heat so thought there mat have been a blockage, and need to change a leaking valve on it. Yes there was really black water coming out of it. The boiler temperature seems to make no difference, tryed it high low and in the middle. The three downstairs rad are stone cold. Thanks for the replies so far.

You need to flush all the rads out then the loops with the rads off, two hose pipes, one on a draincock and the other mains water is the easiest way

When you flush the rads give them a bang with the back of an old shoe - helps shift the s**t. :thumbright:

Still no luck! Took off all the radiators today and flushed them all out, and all the pipe work. I am now left with a lovely hot bathroom rad (the first one on the run) and that is it. The chill has been taken off the second one. The rest are completely cold. :dunno: Any more suggestions would be great. Many thanks again.

Have shut the lockshield to the first one. Most of the heat has now gone, but there is still not that much heat in the second rad. The pipes are hot coming out from the pump, after that they are under the floorboards. The pipes that are visible from the second one on are cold.

Take the head off the TRV first to see if that makes a difference.

if the loop isn't getting cold then there's a circulation fault.

Has any valves been closed (not the rads)

Check the pump is turning.

There definately was a circulation problem. Over the weekend we managed to connect up a couple of hose and back flush the system along different points of the system. Was quite surprising how much was rattling about in there. I am now glad to say that i have a fully working heating system. I would like to take this opportunity to thankyou all for the advise given. Many thanks again.
