Hello,
We've recently moved into a 1970's house and I was planning to set about replacing the existing grotty carpet with a nice engineered wood floor this weekend. Unfortunately, I've just lifted up a wooden 'sill' that sits in front of the patio doors and have been horrified to find a large whole (approx. 1m x 15cm, up to 10cm deep) in the concrete floor underneath, with the sill supported by some offcuts resting on some rubble. It's obviously been done by whoever installed the door but looks a mess. For about 10cm in front of the door it's only about an inch deep but then quickly drops off under the patio door itself and I can see the exterior brickwork. Could anyone tell me the best way to fill this hole? Please?
Thanks!

| Will try and get some piccies tonight but any general advice in the meantime? I suspect I may not have time to fill the hole and have it dry before the weekend...

I've taken some pictures of the offending area. Hopefully this shows more clearly what the problem is. The depth of the first 'step' down in the concrete is approx. 2cm. The wooden blocks are resting on some heavy felt-like material. It then falls off just before the patio door to a depth between 5cm and 7cm. There appears to be some rubble in there. As I'm planning to put down engineered wood floor, I'll obviously need this area flat and stable. I want to get it right now as I don't want to be pulling up wood flooring later to correct any problems later. I haven't done any work with concrete before but something tells me it's not quite as straightforward as mixing some up and bunging as much in as I can. Any advice very much appreciated.

Hi
Can you have a look and determine the height of the damp course in
relation to the bottom of the cill
If you can't see it outside, lift up the bit of damp course (the thick felt material) that is covering the cavity inside
Reason being we need to find out if the damp course was breached when the patio doors were fitted
Also what direction do you intend to run the flooring
