Hiya,

First post here and in need of some speedy help. My floor creeks like hell in lots of different places. im having new carpet laid on wed morning (I said it was urgent!). I know why now, the guy who laid the sheets of boards onto the joists, used nails instead of screws, so obviously I want to take the chance to screw down the boards to remove the creaks.

My problem is I dont know where the pipes are, so rather than my non scientific plan of screws right next to existing nails(danger of hitting pipes?) pulling nails out is also very difficult as theyre well driven in and would take too long.....is there a pipe detector I can hire that will tell me where these pipes are, so i can screw in wherever I need , whilst avoiding the pipes? I realise I should have sorted this earlier but circumstances mean I have to get this sorted tomorrow...hope someone can give me a steer. Thanks in advance.

Well you can get small metal detectors that detect copper pipe and wiring however in this day of plastic pipes, they are not much good,so no easy safe way around problem that I know, just as you mention, putting screws right next to existing nails

:welcomeuhm: Same as White Pan. Too be sure lift up a couple of boards and look underneath with a torch. Better safe than sorry.
