I know that a thermostatic radiator valve means that the radiator will come on if the temperature drops to the level selected by the number you choose on the valve..........but does an ordinary valve mean the radiator is either on or off, and the heat will just be however hot the boiler is set to output?

Is that right?

I need angled valves for the stainless steel radiator I bought but don't know what to buy.

HH is your man for this, you are correct with the TRV, as its a SS rad I presume its going in the bathroom, I think normally the bathroom rad is fitted with standard valves which help the boilers bypass function, you could fit a trv and the boiler bypass would work of course, just nobody ever complains of a bathroom being too hot so no trv. Standard valves are throttled back when trying to balance the whole system, leave the standards in the bathroom fully open, and slap anyone putting a towel on it.

Standard valves when fully open are on when CH is running yes.

Jason is right... But you would need to balance the "by-pass" rad along with rest of system.
