Here I am again from long time ago still painting skirting and door surrounds. I had been using water based satinwood and although a pain in the butt for coverage I was getting along fine. Then I stupidly by mistake bought solvent based instead of water based and used it painting the solvent based satinwood on top of the water based satinwood. What a numpty I am, even although it had a smell and felt tacky it didn't even click, sweary words!
So my question is that I need to revert back to water based so do I now need to lightly sand solvent based paint once it has dried and start again I am unsure as to how one will react with the other.
The reason I am using water based is due to being asthmatic hence reason for not wanting to use solvent based.
Oh I've just had an awful thought - will the solvent based paint actually dry?

It wont make any difference as long as the water based satin is dry, although now that you've used the solvent based satin and its now dry will it still affect your asthma I used dulux trade water based satin last week for the first time (customer supplied) and found it to be pretty good |

No solvent based won't make any difference when it is dry but at the moment it isn't so good due to smell. Plus it also yellows quicker than water based so that's another reason I would like to go back to water based.
Have you any idea if the solvent based satinwood will dry on top of the water based? Also, will I need to prime it or sand it to revert back to water based? |

| hi diybelle, yes the oil based will dry over the water based, I would sand the oil based lightly to give a key if you want to go back over it with waterbased. dont you just hate it when that happens, in a rush one day instead of picking up the water based gloss to finish some doors I picked up the undercoat and undercoated it again. |

It doesn't pay to go to B&Q when there is a sale on, too busy and just wanted out of the place! At least I'm not the only one that has done something like this |

And me used gloss on a couple of doors instead of satin, as I was painting, I kept think, Mmmmm this seems very shiny, but it will dull as it dries, never thought to check the tin at this stage, was in a rush, realised it on the third door. _________________ When I first met my Mr Right, I didnt realise his first name was Always. |
