Hi
I have a Bosch Hedgecutter AHS 48-16. It is only a couple of years old and hasn't given me any trouble before. Yesterday I went to use it an after two cuts it just stopped working. I changed the fuse and it wasn't that. Does anyone have any ideas of what could be wrong please?
I would welcome any ideas.
Thanks, Sarah

It could be a few things, but you will need a multi meter to do a few basic tests. All these tests need to be done with the machine unplugged from the electrical supply.

If the fuse is ok there could be an internal break in the wiring going to the machine, this is a very common fault on machines with cords and it often happens on vacuum cleaners and machines that are moved about a lot.

There is a video here explaining how to test for continuity-

You need to test that the cable is not broken, but to do this you will need to remove some screws from the machine to get to the switch. This can be complicated on some machines and you have to be careful of bits dropping out if you have to remove a side from it etc.

If you can get to the switch or trigger you should be able to follow the incoming cable to the switch. You can test the cable from there by probing one of the two wires at a time, by touching the plugs neutral and live pins whilst checking the continuity. So if you touch one probe to the neutral side of the plug and then test both incoming cables at the machines switch one of the cables should beep (providing you have a bleep function on your machine). Then move the probe to the positive side of the plug and repeat, you should again get a beep.

If you don't get a beep it means the wire is internally broken and will need replacing. If you do get a beep do a visual check of all the wiring and make sure there are no broken or dislodged wires.

Do you know exactly how old it is?

If less than two years you could still get it fixed under guarantee, well actually they won't fix it they just supply a new one as it's cheaper.

Thanks. Unfortunately it is over 2 years old but it is the second one I have had and the last one did the same thing. I went on Amazon to look how much a new one would cost and looked at the reviews and it seems to happen quite frequently. I am going to get my son in law to check the switch for me but if he can't do it then will go for a Black and Decker as they seemed more reliable. thanks for your advice.
