Hi folks had to visit a client that had high fuel bills, discovered that her room stat had been fitted in a small bedroom and the Trv left off, she had been setting this high to keep the heating on in her lounge as it is quite big and to make matters worse the sun shines into the small bedroom. I've never seen them set up like this, the roomstat is usually in the hall or lounge. I emailed the Association (technical officer) as the development is quite new, finnished building last year. That was 2 months ago, finally got a reply from him as he rang me amd gave some waffle about the rad in the small bedroom being used for over spill but I thought all new systems have a bypass fitted anyway, the systems were designed by Vokera, he did admit that the roomsats are usually fitted in the hall or lounge and is still looking into this surley they swap round the Trv's amove the roomstat for better control? but I'm not a heating engineer, I don't want to let this one go.

Thanks in advance

do you mean the trv was taken off or turned off?

as for a bypass advised yes, but as long as you have a rad open all the time it will stop the boiler getting too hot as the heat from the rad will dissipate the heat form the boiler

as for the stat in the bedroom thats a new one to me, unless there is another stat you missed and due to part L i believe if the house is above 150msq floor area you have to add another zone ie another stat that controls a zone valve

dont quote me on the figures i was asleep for most of the part L course, due to it being boring as hell

Hi Lordcross, the trv was omitted at time of fitting, I've seen another flat there and its the same, the floor area is way under 150m2

We have local authority systems fitted here with all rads fitted with trv's and a room stat and systems where they have omitted one where the room stat is.

Thanks again

Hi Scruff, I knew you would be along sometime, how would one of these benfit the householder The only things I sell are Energy Performance Certificates and most people think they are Mickey Mouse anyway but they are geting better, the rest of my services are free don't sell things only advise, so if you say placed this in the hall or lounge with the coresponding receiver she would have better control? its getting this over to the associations tech officer.

Thanks again

You answered the question, Better Control, I don't think the hall is the best place though.

The lounge is where occupants spend most of the time sitting around so that is the obvious choice.

Hi Scruff, I'm with you on the lounge as I often advise for them to be re-positioned there.

Thanks

The main point with the DT92E is it can be moved around with ease.
