hi all

just been doing a extension to a house,
fitted the door to the new bathroom and made the spindle height 1000mm
i was always taught 1000 and all the other doors in the house are 1000,

the existing doors are flush vaneered and the new door is a 4 panel egg box, the mid rail is set at 900 and the cust has complained that the handle not in the rail,

were do you guys put the spindle height?

you should never mortice a lock into any join in the door as it weekens the door
surface mounted locks yes as they dont weaken the door

if they want anything else its there responcibility as you have fitted the lock in the time served "normal "position

Its the customers house so should explain beforehand where you want to put it and why.If they want it in the wrong place so be it, its their door and their house, as long as you put it in writing you wont be responsible for the door falling apart afterwards. My invoices have a box for adding comments and they sign underneath that they have read the comments box above. All nice and clear for all involved this way.

If it's 'egg box', then 900mm would probably miss the 'lock block' thats built in.

I do them at 1-0m to the 'pin' unless the other doors that are located nearby are different I do them to match....

One thing you should never forget is to never put a mortise lock in a door where a joint is located as it will weaken the door
