I have a handbasin in a ground floor room that won't drain. I've used a plunger, removed the trap and cleaned, used drain cleaner, used a 6m rod to go all the way down the pipework from basin to where it goes outside to an open drain. I've even replaced the trap with a non-siphon version incase it's an airlock. What's going on?!

The setup is a hand basin on one side of the room with the 40mm waste running around 3 walls before meeting up with the kitchen sink wastes and then going through the wall to an open drain. The kitchen sinks are draining fine. No brackets have dropped so I don't understand what's going on.

Can you get a hose pipe down the pipe and give it a controlled blast of mains water.

If you cleared all the from the trap to the gulley then the only other place it can be blocked is at the plug/waste. Is it a pop up waste that is not lifting high enough? Check for hair etc under the plug going to the trap. Is it a bottle, P or S trap?

The plug hole is completely clear I can see daylight through it when I take the trap off.

The other weird thing is when I first plunged the basin, I blocked up the overflow with a damp cloth but when I plunged water came out of a round manufacturing hole in the underneath of the basin (it's a porcelain basin).

Double check the bottle trap is completely clear. Also seems you have a faulty manufacturered basin if water comes out of a hole in the bottom.

Just a thought - I'm assuming the waste pipe does run downwards along it's whole route?

I made up a connection for a hose with a waste compression coupler and some 15mm copper fittings. Mains pressure isn't great but was enough to make the water flow but the run off isn't very great so will have to keep on top of it with drain cleaner

Thanks for help

:? :? :? I'd like to see a picture of that! I'm assuming then it was more or less a horizontal pipe run, causing a build up of muck?
