Following on from last thread about ceiling blimishes.
I recently had to skim over a larger double bedroom ceiling which had artex on it already. Cause the weather was hot my gear was going off on the first coat after covering about 2 thirds of the ceiling area so had to clean up and mix up a new batch. Cause of this I was up against time and found later that I had some trowel marks (especially where the two sections meet) that I couldn't easilly trowel out even with excessive water.
Question is, does easy fill work at sorting out all this kind of stuff too? |

pmg try wicks plaster bonding agent over artex next time. Youll get more work time mate
I would rub out trowel marks and if you can give it a mist coat and when dry it will show all imperfections which you can fill or use decorators cork |

Cheers andy-p
It was after reading some of your replys and topics that led me to use wickes bonding agent on this job. And I would have to agree it definately makes a difference. But I'm still a novice really especially when it comes to the dreaded ceilings so found it difficult to finish quickly as I did it all by myself so had to do all the crap stuff to, like cleaning up and so on.
When you say rub out the trowel marks, do you mean just going over with a dry trowel? And when you talk about a mist coat is that the same thing? Or is it going over with a light spray of water and toweling out all marks? And lastly is decorators chalk like easy fill or something similar?
Much appreciated for your input. |

If youve struggled with a job and there are trowel marks in it when dry (pink), get some fine sand paper and rub them out. A mist coat is a watered down matt paint rollered on fresh plaster before it is painted. But a mist coat will also show up the imperfections in what you have just skimmed thus show you what to fill, if it needs filling.
More you do pmg the quicker and better you get.
We all bin there mate |

Have you got a great big long plasterers straight edge?
Really useful for seeing the dips in real time not what the eye can see.
They're also really good at pointing out a warped door in a set of 4 patio doors! I'd have thought they'd make straight ones at £950 a opening. _________________ Jaeger.

any pva does the job, wickes bonding agent is just the same as any other, if the sun is shining on the plaster it will set alot quicker, very doubtful if wickes bonding agent will help! |

w/b/g aint pva, its a silicon based bonding agent. Youll still get suction with pva espeacially were artex is concerned but wont with wbg or bondit.
just trying to give him more options to think about cos we all work at different speeds. |

| well. in my experience when you trowel up it doesnt act has an adhesive and drags the finish where your trowelling and brings it from the area and when it sets the finish will flake and fall off |
