Hi,

There appears to be green moss growing inbetween the bricks all over my patio.

Is this common or is there an underlying problem?

How would I remove it?

Thanks

Its common.
The most effective way to remove it is to jet wash but, like almost anything you do it will grow back and jet washing will also remove sand if your patio joints are filed with sand and any loose mortar if it is pointed.
Other ways are to apply moss killer or a kill everything on paths herbicide such as pathclear.
The cheapest way to kill it and reduce slippyness on the path / patio is just to throw a couple of shovel fulls of salt grit over it from the local yellow grit bin by the side of the road. (these grit bins are intended to be used to de ice public roads and paths, not private driveways and patios). The saltyness will kill the moss and weeds but is only effective for about 3 months then it will need another application.

Thanks Mike,

Good to know its common. Will it still happen in the summer when it is drier?

I bought a bag of sand yesterday because of the snow.

It will still grow in the summer but the weeds will grow a lot faster than the moss so you'll notice then instead.
Sand will help stop it being slippy but won't help keep the weeds and moss down or did you mean rock salt?

Yes, that'll do the job.
