Hi all first post, I have a quick question.

In a standard gravity setup with cold water tank in loft and hot water cylinder on first floor, is the 'head' the distance between the bottom of the cold water tank and the cylinder or the distance from the CWS to the outlets?

Its just our kitchen hot tap has much better force than the bathroom ones but I was under the impression the head was from the CWS to the HWSC.

Thanks for any replies. :-)

In the case of the hot water, neither, the head is either the bottom or half way up the storage tank, to the highest point in the pipework.

Depending on the pipe sizes you will get more volume at the lowest level, because the secondary head is greater on the ground floor than the 1st.

There are two heads.

The static head is the pressure you get when you stuff your finger in the tap. That's the height of water between your finger and the water level in the cold water cistern.

The dynamic head is when the tap(s) are running. That will be the static head less the pressure drop in the pipes.
