Years ago, there used to be a slight difference between front and back in texture, but it was very slight, so as not to notice, but you did and still do get a variation in colour, when all said and done, it does come from timber, with all the inherrent variations. Smile

Paste wise, unless it's a big 'Gob' of it, then you will have nothing to concern your self with. Thumbright

Still want to see piccies, then we might considder you a 'Hounery Decorator' Laughing

I am feeling old. I remember 1000 grade coming to the market and chat on site with the journeymen was that it was for lazy boys and DIYers...slowly I depsite the terrible prejudice bred into me I came round to it and used it loads.... and now there is 1700!!!!! I shall start dragging heavily on a pipe and talking about young-uns before we know what.
I do very little wallpapering and would love to do more...it's hard to keep your hand in at every part of the trade and always still be learning new and exciting stuff too.....too few hours in the day.

Cait

I remember when caulk hit the market...thats about it really, our trade hasnt moved foward as quick as other on the innovation front.

More worrying...a couple of months ago another decorator was talking to someone in front of me in a trade shop and referred to me and himself as 'old school'... Shocked

Im only 47 and still listen to punk rock (and have a crafty pogo when no ones about!! )

I think it was the firm I was with, it was very old fashioned and when I left I realised that there was in fact paper that was a grade higher than 600 and even the daring 800...I even remember times when we used 400 (maybe I am remembering something that never happened though...but I am sure 400 came into play)
I am only 41...OK, quick sum..born in March 1966...this is 2008, haven't had birthday yet...yup definitely 41 and not deluding myself. I did go through a whole year thinking I was 38 and only in the January realising that I was 49 and being devestated.........life can be cruel...

I hope you dont price your own work Cait!! Laughing

Actually, interesting you mentioned 400 grade..it was known as 'extra white' and the proper one to paint over...what a pig to hang though

The worse thing I ever hung though was real newspaper, ceiling and walls...then varnished over it.

Nightmare!

We put it up dry..well..dampened it slightly

Pasted the surface and then rolled it over with a dry clean 9 inch roller.

It was really hit and miss..loads of it ended up in the bin.
