Since when did crow bars get turned into wrecking bars? Or are they different things?

Anyway, I got a three-set of 'Gorilla Wrecking bars' from Costco last week. It's this set - http://www.lawson-his.co.uk/scripts/details.php?cat=Crowbars&product=106510&utm_campaign=comparison&utm_source=froogle&utm_medium=ncpc but I think I paid about £15 all in or thereabouts.

Anyway these seems to be the best bars I've used. My main use if for prying of window/door frames from the brickwork. Because of the shape of these bars, there is very little flex in the bars and most of the force is transferred to the object that is being pryed. The shape of the hook also seems to be a bit more acute and you can get more leverage out of it.

If you are in the market for some bars, give these a go. Anybody used or seen the crow bar with a swivel head on it? I think it's made by Hulfators.

Traditionally, a crow bar is slighly curved at the business end (which looks like crow's feet - hence the name) and a wrecking bar is flat at the end.

They all have different names depending on shape i believe. I'd call them wrecking bars.

Wrecking bars, heel bars, die bars, pry bars, pinch bars .....each have theire own jobs, but all seem to be often called 'crowbars'

There are lots of different sets of these bars for sale, the majority of them are made by Olympia tools and then branded under Gorilla, Roughneck etc.

Costco is normally cheap and their giant pizzas are good too

mate at work fetched a gorilla bar in a little while ago. they were much better than a standard crow bar.

iirc he had to bring it in after snapping a normal crow bar lol. was pretty hilarious

bit late but..

in Oz they are called pinch bars, a crow bar is a 2m long 50mm thick bar of iron that you use to break or move rocks when diggin a hole.

and in sweden, they call them 'the masterkey'.
