Painting the outside windows again and would like to know what others find a good paint to use. The last time they were painted l used dulex flexible undercoat and gloss but l thought it was hard to paint with, to thick and not running freely through the brush. Since it's got a gloss finish on it already does it need a good rub down before applying a undercoat this time and what about water based exterior paints any good ones l could try.....

Hello,

Dulux weathershield in my opinion is one of the best, and yes you will still need to rub the windows with a bit of abrasive to key the surface prior to undercoating. Think of it as a system, the undercoat grips to the old surface whilst the gloss is better applied to the undercoat, gloss on gloss isnt always a good idea, unless of course you putting on two coats and de-nibbing at the time of decoration. If you want to try waterbased then Sadolin Superdec is what I would recommend, although they call it gloss its more of a satin, but slight rub down to key and then two coats of the Superdec. The paint is specially formulated to naturally break down so wont crack or blister in time, and the next time you decorate it will only need one coat of the Superdec to refresh the whole lot.

Hope this helps

Tel

What would you recommend as a good water based undercoat and will solvent based gloss be ok on water based undercoat. l know dulux is good paint but when l used dulex flexible undercoat and gloss last time it was hard work on the brush, thick and not running off the brush as easy as some l have used before...

Thin but very durable, if you have a bad surface to cover two coats of undercoat are better than two of gloss IMO
