I'm having problems with Malwarebytes: is there anything similar that I can use instead?

The problem is that it's getting stuck in the *Heuristic analysis* phase - it's not just me being impatient, the first couple of times it did it I left it for about four hours before stopping it.

Did some googling and it appears to be a commonish problem but solutions weren't easy to find/understand.

I uninstalled it and downloaded and ran it again - I left it for over ten hours before I stopped it - most of that time was on the *Heuristic analysis* and for the last couple of hours at least (I didn't look sooner) the number of files scanned didn't change, (280984) - it hadn't found any problems btw.

I'd try either Superantispyware or Spybot Search and Destroy.
http://www.superantispyware.com/
https://www.safer-networking.org/
Get the program from the main site, and not somewhere else as there are malicious versions where even the site can look the same.
I use MWB as well, looking online you might already have some sort of infection. You could ask for help on their forums. It looks as if they follow up well on problems like yours.

Thanks Dave, I already use Superantispyware - it only ever finds tracking cookies, but that's OK.

I used to use Spybot and did download it again onto the new PC I'm using now, but the interface had changed completely and I ditched it again.

I'll take another look at it and see if I can understand it better this time. I don't think it ever found anything untoward in all the years I used it before but my nipper reckons the "immunise" feature is worth having.

I read a while back that S&D actually contains spyware itself now.
