Hi guys just had ago at doing a ceiling,by the way had no time for a cup of tea inbewteen coats you pros talk about(lol). The finish result looks not to bad,but there are a few rough patches and light areas in places. The trouble is it took me so long to get the 1st coat on, by time i got to second coat, the 1st coat had over an hour and half to dry.It took me 2 mixes after the first one went of after about 45 mins,so that slowed the whole process down, having to clean a bucket of half hardened plaster. Is it possible to apply only 1 coat now this has dried out or do you always have to go with the 2 coats.Any help would be great thanks.

The ceiling you have done is too big for your level of experience.

What were you plastering onto?

One coat plasterers tend to leave their horses outside mate

How big was the ceiling ? An hour and a half to lay on your first coat is either a bloody big ceiling or you need to get your skates on ?

I'd never recommend one coating, especially over artex - gain experience on smaller ceilings or get to grips with a rolling set

Yeah I agree I would never want to put my name to a one coat wonder job. Always a double coat mate, top while the base coat has gone off a little but it does sound like the size of the ceiling is way beyond you if I'm honest.

You could of divided the ceiling into two parts with some masking tape and just skimmed up to the tape, this way you would have a nice neat line to blend into when you come to lay the other half on.

Also you mentioned that the ceiling has recently had artex removed from it now does this mean it had a slightly chalky surface? If so I would have use some WBA on it first.
