Hi Guys, just painted a hardwood front door, knotted with patent knotting used dulux trade weathershield stages 1 & 2, and then just normal dulux trade gloss, no probs until the sun came out and now where the knots seem to be the paint is blistering down to the knotting solution. heeeelp. Is it only on the knotted areas?..because you can have problems if you use the 'primer' over knots..

The primer is meant to be absorbed into the surface, but cant because of the knotting solution, it will just sit there...then when you gloss the gloss has no adhesion to the surface

If you looked at the paint on the back of those bubbles under a microscope youll find a layer of 'primer' stuck to them and not the door.

youll have to scrape of the bubbles..and then prime using using aluminium wood primer, its self knotting so the resin wont stain the surface of the finish paint...fill with exterior grade polyfiller undercoat, rub the whole door down with very fine (320 grade) wet and dry paper then gloss the whole lot again.

(just as a footnote..stabilising solution can do the same thing if its put on a non absorbent surface)
