It would be bonded using UV glue. A superglue that's activated by UV light.

You can buy a glue that sticks glass to metal, thought you'd have come across it Simon.

You'll probably be able to get it from somewhere else so as not to have to pay the same again for delivery as the product costs!

I used the Araldite version to stick some glass top on a couple of tables I made, generally they were okay, but when one got knocked over the bond broke.

My own dining table, i used window suckers to stop it sliding about. The weight keeps it in place.
