I ripped an old forsythia out of a corner of the garden and need to replace it. I've been wondering about bamboo. Has anyone got any of the tall growing bamboo in their garden? How invasive is it? I'm looking for a fast growing privacy barrier creating plant.

Hi Lou, if i remember correctly scratch bamboo is very invasive so plant it in open ended containers to stop runners spreading out,it's just like mint and strawberries i believe. Thumbright

We did that with mint. We had similar problems with passion flower roots, they travelled over 30 feet across the garden.

We got rid of it and swore that it'd stay in the shop no matter how pretty the flowers were! Laughing

Tobe,

I'd looked at seeds on Ebay too but wondered how long they take to germinate and whether they need special conditions. I know that some seeds need to be frozen (stratified) before growing on. I'd be interested to see how you do.
