I ripped an old forsythia out of a corner of the garden and need to replace it. I've been wondering about bamboo. Has anyone got any of the tall growing bamboo in their garden? How invasive is it? I'm looking for a fast growing privacy barrier creating plant. _________________ Never be afraid to ask, that's how we learn. |

Hi Lou, if i remember correctly bamboo is very invasive so plant it in open ended containers to stop runners spreading out,it's just like mint and strawberries i believe. _________________ People forget how fast you did a job - but they remember how well you did it.

We did that with mint. We had similar problems with passion flower roots, they travelled over 30 feet across the garden. _________________ Never be afraid to ask, that's how we learn. |

Passion flowers are great for covering fences i had
a russian vine once too, no wonder it's called "mile-a-minute"
one plant covered over 40' of fence. _________________ People forget how fast you did a job - but they remember how well you did it.

We got rid of it and swore that it'd stay in the shop no matter how pretty the flowers were! _________________ Never be afraid to ask, that's how we learn. |

I'm getting another couple of Passion flower plants
for next season,we have just about got the back garden the
way we want it now and the back fence is ideal for covering
with climbers. _________________ People forget how fast you did a job - but they remember how well you did it.

im looking for similar thing, and have bought 60 water bamboo seeds. have lots of clay so these love the water and will survive better. some say in the right conditions they will grow a foot a day!

Tobe,
I'd looked at seeds on Ebay too but wondered how long they take to germinate and whether they need special conditions. I know that some seeds need to be frozen (stratified) before growing on. I'd be interested to see how you do. _________________ Never be afraid to ask, that's how we learn. |
