Hi All,

I've got to replace the throttle body for the wifes MGF as it's warped and causing problems with the idle of the car - i.e, it won't.

The replacement arrived this morning, aside from needing a good cleanup - it's perfect.

Looks like it's got a gasket or seal around the edge, shown below, doesn't need anything else does it?

Second - where the airfeed connects to the end of the body, it is usually secured by a jubilee clip. Reading around, this is one of the causes of it warping in the first place (uneven pressure). Now, the fit is pretty snug and I thought of using self amalgamating tape to seal the gap around, which would put no pressure on and leave a mega seal. Sound OK?

Must go clear up....it's on the carpet and the missis is on her way.....

Cheers

Sorry if the above sounds a bit dumb.....just want to double check. Already spent hours replacing tons of other stuff and would like to do it once....hence the double check. I'm not thick.....honest.

dont forget to recalibrate by stamping the throttle 5 times in 20 seconds with the ignition at setting 2 :-)

I am not a mechcanic but I have used Amilgimating tape on a Fiesta a few years back and it worked ok as long as there isnt any leaks i cant forsee a problem,I have seen loads of cars with the intake hoses held in place with clear silicone as well

another tip is take the car for a spin and do different driving styles for the ecu to reset

Cheers chaps - will give the tape a go and see how it gets on.

Won't forget to reset the ECU - found that nugget of info before when I was trying to suss this problem out before, turns out it's a warped TB whcih is why the revs don't calm on tickover.

Madness....who'd have thunk a crappy car like that would have anything more complicated than a light switch - never mind an ECU to reset.

If that is true, the hamster is well and truly dead.

Hi btcc, how you doing?

Throttle body is old style I think - but the operation is smooth as silk and the spring feels like it's got 5x more resistance in the spring. It's here:

Seal looks good but if ever in doubt this product (refined spec SQ32L) was used on RR aero engines; I keep a tube for such jobs on fuel/oil joints.

Hiya chief!

Fitted it which has helped loads, but it's not solved the problem.

It's gone from a stuck throttle and erratic idle, to a reasonable 1100rpm - it was enough to get through MOT, but it's not right still.

I took the wiring harness off the ECU and checked all the common causes:

- temp sender from engine
- checked all sensor wires for broken cables/high resistance
- idle stop was ok
- broken air lines/hoses
- reset iacv
- replaced iacv AND the TPS

it's still the same. I've read that this can be fixed with the redbook software - it resets IACV for correct idle, but couldnt' find a dealer near by to me. Also, i've seen many people saying it's the shroud around the ECU connector (reD) that prevents the contacts working.

When the weather clears up, I'm going to have another look - just takes SO long to get all the hood off and all the engine cover bolts before you can even start.

I'll do some vids when I get roudn to it so you can see if you like?

Cheesr for askign though :)
