I've recently moved into a 1930s house with a 20 year old boiler in the utility room on the ground floor and the water tank in a loft conversion.

I got the central heating system checked and was advised to get a new boiler installed next to the water tank in the loft.

This has been done, but I now have a big copper pipe running from my meter cupboard up through my front room and through a bedroom up to the loft.

I'm really concerned by the pipe in the bedroom as it's right next to the headboard of my bed. There's not space in the room to move the bed. Is it dangerous to be sleeping right next to a gas pipe? What if it leaks?

Also, to make it look less obtrusive would it be better to paint it or box it in? The boxing would have to navigate coving and a picture rail.

Many thanks in advance for your answers, they'll help me sleep at night!

Though not nearly as well as that leaky gas pipe.....

Boxing in will probably be your best answer...

Boxing is easy to get around a picture rail and coving. It just needs to be scribed in.

place wooden blocks on the floor to space the legs off the pipe or cover the pipe with foam insulation until you can do a proper job

Begs the question, why didn't they run it in the corner or something. It sounds a right cowboy job.

How about a couple of pics.
