| i have a gas fire , an inbuilt type with fake coals. can i take the gas part out and just put in an open fire, the problem i have is that it is not real firebrick, but some other material that looks like bricks , maybe asbestos, not sure, any help please |

NO, you would have to remove the fire completely, and fit a standard open fire grate!
The flue outlet on the gas fire, is not designed for an open fire, and may not work correctly for solid fuel. Remember ANY burning process can produce deadly Carbon Monoxide, not just gas. _________________ www.hintonheating.com

| thanks hh , just had chimney cleaned and tested , was fine, and i think it was used for solid fuel before, the look alike brick is shaped for a fire , but not sure if it could stand the heat of an open fire |

Could you post a picture of the fire, taken from a low angle looking toward the outlet into the chimney.
