You use what you know.
Like my wife never even thinks about using a chisel when she can use a screwdriver... |

Ok so yet more info on the garage from hell
Sorry it's taken so long, but i've been busy working all weekend.
This is a diagram of garage, roof is pitched, but I added the rafters just to show position and number. The red sections are the sections i'm planning on replacing, and at UH's advice i'll be doing the replacement using breezeblock rather than 100mm block.
Thats a photo of the garage from the side, the damaged blockwork can be seen.
These are showing the current foundation, which i'll re use (unless someone tells me that would be a bad idea).
This is the pillar thats on the back wall, there is only one, and as can be seen it's not huge.
Finally this is a photo showing the roof structure before the added supports were added.
I spent all day sat cutting and adding the new supports and they look good (well in my opinion, having never done anything like this before), and I managed to level them from side to side, and level each support with the next one.
Being a but daft, I took loads of pictures to show what i've done, and them promptly left camera at home, so i'll add some finished pics tomorrow.

Ok The finished pictures
Ok you can see the new lighter 2 x 4 i've bolted in place. i had to add 7 of these as the structural report reccomended tying all rafter pairs.
This is one of the 4 existing trusses, as you can see it's pulling appart due to the previous owner storing a mountain of wood and general Sh*t up there. I've removed the offending junk, and i'm going to put a nail plate on both sides and chuck a few nails in, just to stop it getting worse, though with the weight removed i doubt it would. (does the nail plate thing seem a good idea?)
I decided to cost the job up so anyone needing to do anything similar gets an idea of how much things cost - for the tradesmen out there you'll probably laugh at what i've paid for things but I know i'd find it useful as it makes you realise it doesn't cost the earth to get jobs out of the way.
Materials
Wood 8 of 47 x 100 x 4200mm £52.51
Coach Bolts 24 x M12 x 150mm £7.40
Round washers box of 100 £3.29
Square Washers box of 50 £4.76
Timber Connectors box of 50 £7.49
Total £75.45
I also managed to spend £120 on tools, but I think thats because the shop had "shiny things"
I hope this all helps someone that needs to do a similar job.
Thank you to everyone who commented and gave advice, your time answering is appreciated
