This is a puzzle, might not be to any of you lol.
I am on BB, and I sometimes leave the PC on all day while I am at work, and sometimes I switch it off.
Yesterday I switched off, logged out, and closed the PC etc.
When I switched it back on last evening, and typed out a message to submit to UHM the writing does not look right .
I didnt take much notice till I went into a couple other sites and typed out a message, and its the same.
Instead of the letters/words appearing sort of bold, they look quite faded, as though you have used a pen and its running out of ink, or if you used a typwriter and the ribbon has faded.
I can see a slight reddish tint amongst the letters as well .
I am happy with the size of the characters, but the characters look quite faint, has anyone any idea what has happened. _________________ When I first met my Mr Right, I didnt realise his first name was Always. |

It sounds to me from that description that "ClearType" has been turned off?
Assuming you are on Windows XP, try the following:
Click Start, then Control Panel
Find the option called ClearType Tuning
There is an option there called "Turn On Clear Type" - if it is checked, then not what I thought. If it is NOT checked, check it and see if you like the new style of text better.
If so, go through the wizard and get the display setup the way that works for you best _________________ I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman, "Where's the self-help section?"

You might have clear type turned off or on.
It a feature which should smooth the edge of the characters but sometimes can give odd results in non standard settings.
I'm assuming you're using Windows XP...So goto display properties in contol panel and select the appearance tab, then click effects button and select the 2nd option down, clear-type. _________________ Don't buy a dwarf with learning difficulties,

Nope, its still the same, it was on 'standard', so I changed it 'clear type', but it hasnt made a difference. and even the writing on all the topics UHM on the front page is like it. _________________ When I first met my Mr Right, I didnt realise his first name was Always. |

If you are using an external monitor, then try these two:
Make sure the lead is fully in - give it a push to make sure (unlikely, but worth a check)
If you have an "auto" button on the display, hit it.
Also, you mention about this problem when viewing this forum and other forums - is this limited to your Web Browser? Same on other other programs like Word? _________________ I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman, "Where's the self-help section?"

It could be my monitor
This only happend when I switched the PC back on, before then the writing/characters appreared sort of bold, and precise, now they are very faint.
I will have a go again when I come in from work, I might even switch it back off before I go to work and see what happens when I switch it back on. _________________ When I first met my Mr Right, I didnt realise his first name was Always. |

I have been on websites in the past and it has changed the size of text in my browser and the whole thing looks screwed up, This has happened a few times. I have to go into options and change it back. _________________ DIY | DIY Video |

Dont know what you mean WD, I use IE if thats any help.
Its beyond a joke now, even my favourites are very faint and pale, it must be my monitor, as its like it as I am typing now, and when I go into boards.
What can I do. _________________ When I first met my Mr Right, I didnt realise his first name was Always. |

by external hoovie means a seperate monitor or laptop
can you get access to another monitor to swap over just to eliminate ?
follow the lead (not the power cable)from your monitor into the back of the pc and make sure its fully inserted ( )
firefox is just another browser ,like IE but better IMO |

Few things to let us know to get to the bottom of this problem:
1) Did you check if you get this faint text on NON-web pages - that is stuff outside of IE?
2) Are you using a Laptop with the screen buit-in, or is it a monitor that is attached to the PC via a plug in cable?
3) If it is an external monitor (that is one that is plugged in to a PC base), what is the make and model?
4) - This one may not be very obvious to check - have you got your systems to do any automatic updating from Windows? _________________ I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman, "Where's the self-help section?"
