|
|
|
Hi,
After nipping to the library yesterday and listening in on the IT guy telling people new to computers that "you must get a good antivirus software, I recommond P C cillin , for £20 at pc world", I realised that people are paying for what you can download for free (for personal use).
AVG antivirus is fantastic and is totally free for personal use and Zonealarm is also a great free firewall.
Both of these are in my free downloads section and are both completely free, problem is that I link to their site and they then change the page so that it is hard to find the free version and so you buy the other version.
To make it easy here are the exact url's that you need-
AVG FREE antivirus
Zonealarm
The links work today but might not tomorrow, so you may have to browse a few pages to find the free versions.

Make sure you download the free full version and not the trial version, the page seems designed to confuse people into downloading the trial version of the one that you have to pay for!
Good tip though!

I use Zonealarm Pro, well worth it and a helps a whole lot when you have a couple of pc's connected as the pro version gives you all the networking wizards to boot.
AVG is the only anti virus software that's never screwed up my computer.
and I also swear by Mailwasher, stops all the screaming nasties in the email before you download it into outlook express. _________________

Anyone wanting free downloads should visit this site:
http://www.computeractive.co.uk/downloads/
They have both the AVG and Zone alarm and they are very good and as Chez says are FREE!
You really dont need Norton or McAffee. _________________ Jasper

| I have Norton anti virus 2006 and it really does slow things down. I'll definitely be switching to something else when it expires. |

Do a search around the net first, not everyone is as happy with Spamato as you are. _________________ Treat everyone like they are a rich distant relative, in whose will you'd like to be remembered. |

Here's what a techie I respect at my work told me:
"Zone Alarm is great at killing required windows processes, so I'd avoid that at all costs."
He did recommend AVG stuff though.
Dunno if that helps. Probably not. I personally buy my anti-virus software, in the belief that you don't really get something for nothing... I use F-Secure. |

AVG does exactly the same as all the paid for antivirus programmes.
A search on 'avg free' usually brings up the freebie as the 1st unsponsered link. _________________ Building Materials Sourcing

It's free and removed it easily _________________ DIY | DIY Video |

Also
Spybot S&D - anti spyware, free and "immunises" your pc from bad stuff (blocks most crap from installing itself)
Also Avast! (www.avast.com) is a good antivirus, nice and light and works for me. |
