Hi chaps.

Redoing a kitchen next week.

The hob is integrated gas, which I'm going to remove myself (someone has kindly fitted an isolator further up the pipe) but asides from that I'm not touching the gas pipes (advised to leave well alone!)

Going to get a gas fitter in to reroute the pipe for me as the hob will be moving a few feet.

Wondering if he can fit another isolator for me and a flexi pipe for me to connect up when I fit the hob, or will I have to have the hob in place for him already?

Cheers!

I can hear the Gas Safe guys sucking in their breath  It should be a rigid fix I believe and no one can legally advise you (on here) in carrying out this work yourself. I would say get the gas fitter to do it to be on the safe side. :thumbright:

Turning the valve off and just disconnecting it would make it ID, the regs say it must be capped.

Some Hobs can be connected with a cooker style hose, but not all, so you'll need to check the MI.

Thanks for the tips guys.

Would not capping be a problem if the hob is only going to be removed for a couple of days, while the work is in progress?

I just don't want to have to go through the hassle of getting a gas fitter out to remove the hob, then back a few days later to re-fit it (more a time-table thing rather than cost, it's hard to estimate when I'll be ready)

Not allowed to leave an open end, perhaps you could fit a compression cap as a temporary measure

You wouldn't want to leave it open anyway. How would you know if the isolation valve wasn't slightly leaking, or if it got knocked slightly open. You don't know how to do a gas tightness test to check; do you? How safe do you value your life and the life of your family

when we moved into our property we turned on the gas and heating and sat down in the kitchen had a few cigs and some beers... could smell gas so called the emergency line. turns out the previous owner removed the old cooker and had not capped off properly... could have killed us.

Worth noting there is no such thing as ''work in progress'' or '''temporary works'' were gas is concerned or the use of gas appliances, you have to follow the laws and regs all the time
