My digicam is 3 years old, and the biggest SD card I use is 1Gb, whish is the largest mentioned in the user-manual. What are the chances I'll have problems if I use a larger card?

8 Gb USB drives are on offer at 7day shop. Are they feasible to use as backup storage devices?

I'm looking for a 40Gb hard drive for my daughter's laptop. Where can I get one at the right price, a used one would do.

Most digicams will support up to 2GB SD without problems, above that is SD-HC (high capacity) which is same form factor different format.

What make and model laptop is it? to check HDD type currently fitted as well as physical size.

Tekheads seem to be the cheapest for new stuff, plus their shipping is reasonable.

60GB HDD - £26.50 - refurbished

or 160GB drive on special offer for £42 - brand new

I would go for a portable hard drive that simply plugs into a USB port.

It is an Acer Travelmate 2310, from PC World (rock-bottom spec for a Ritz price). The RAM is supplied exclusively by them at top-whack, son tells me that the BIOS can't be set to more than 40Gb for the HDD.

RAM is standard SO-DIMM as supplied by crucial for example, so PC-World are trying to make a fast buck...they need some of this :boxing: for speaking out of their rear ends. Only issue with the 2310 series is they use DDR rather than DDR2 ram (DDR2 is current, DDR is older and getting obsolete so price going up)

Double check your model number and use crucial to find out what type of memory is in it. If its a 2310 then the following link should help.

http://crucial.com/uk/store/listparts.a ... 0%20Series

BIOS should support hard drives bigger than 40GB, likely only reads 40GB as thats what is currently in the computer and thus is reading that size. Setting the BIOS hard drive setting to "auto" when the new hdd is put in should cure that sticking point, that or running "auto detect hard drives" in BIOS. At worst it would accept another hard drive but just see the 40GB...I dont see that happening though, More than likely it should accept the bigger hard drive without issue...though now ive said that I'm gonna have egg on my face...

40GB Drives are rare as hens teeth getting to be and expensive compared to trading up to a bigger drive which will also be - quieter, use less power, and likely be faster.

If you can; avoid Fujitsu hard drives, IMHO they are junk of the worst sort and give me nothing but headaches.
