I have to fix a loose patch (about 3sq/foot) of plaster which has come away from the laith before skimming the whole wall.

I plan to cut away a nice square to expose timber fixings and screw board on with a few dabs od dry wall on the back to increase stability etc...

However the plaster is really thick about 16 - 17mm and one board is too shallow and two boards too thick.

Can i fix one board and then use bonding coat to build it up on the plaster board ( i'm sure someone said you should never put bonding coat onto board)

or

Can i use dollops of dry wall adhesive on the timber and the old laith to stick board on at the right depth and wait an hour till this starts to go off and then screw through it onto the timber to give it that extra hold?

Any other options guys?????

All suggesstions welcome apart from tearing the whole wall down, i really can't be arsed with that as it is all in good knick apart from this patch.

Thanks Steve.

I had this problem.

You just attach battens to the sides of the timber uprights and bring them out a few millimeters to put the plaster board at the right level.

If the original plaster is 17mm and your using 12mm Plaster board, bring the batten forward 5mm so the board is flush with the surface to be skimmed. It doesn't have to be perfect, so long as it doesn't come out too far.

Remember to put nogins at the top and bottom of the hole under the plaster board. It'll help strenthen it.

i'll give the dry wall a go in big dollops, seem like the better option..

out of interest, can you use Thistle bonding coat onto boards???

i was sure someone told me that you can't.

Thanks Andy-p

ahh, moon

sorry computer died and for some reason wouldn't show your post till just now.

Good plan,, i'll take another look and see if the size of the hole is worth doing it your way (timber and noggins etc) which sounds equally good.

Any ideas on the bonding coat on boards question???

Steve
