I have just has some radiators fitted into a bay window and do not feel they have been fitted correctly. I do not have a sound basis for this except my "feeling" so any advice would be appreciated.
There are 3 radiators in the bay.
Starting from the right hand side of radiator 1.
There is a pipe at ground level from the floor going into in then two coming out at the other end at the top and bottom these are both joined to radiator 2.
Radiator 2 has these 2 pipes going in and coming out at the other end again one at the top and one at the bottom both going into Radiator 3. Radiator 3 has two pipies going in and one coming out a ground level.

Before we used to have 3 radiators with a single connecting pipe at the bottom level and a thing at the top to let out air. Are these fitted OK? Am I just being too old fashioned. Also they look just dreadful!

I have attached a picture of what I think you have described and then a picture of how it would normally be done-

Well it's not the way I would do it and I have never seen it done that way before Confused

I can't see the logic behind putting the extra pipes at the top of the radiators scratch

Me neither!

What I would like is the set up in picture 2. But the builder insists he is right and I am fussy. I think the double pipe thing means that if the middle heater gets an air lock I will never be albe to bleed it to get rid of it.

Please if you could suggest a good logical arguement I can put to him it would be appreciated. Otherwise I suppose I can get a second plumber in to remedy the situation but I imagine that this may well be costly.

Theoretically if he just removed the top pipes and put in those silver bolt things would all be OK ?

Yes, although I am not sure how he has connected the pipes into the radiators.

Your best option is to let some of the professionals on here have a look and read their replies tomorrow Wink

I think it would look a lot neater if the pipes were just at the bottom though!

I do feel much better now. Thank you.

Am I right ot assume that there will be no effect on the efficiency of my heaters with this set up then.

I will however go with the traditional set up as it just makes me feel better.

As far as I can see it won't effect the efficiency, it will just effect the overall look of it.

The rads will look much neater if the pipes are just at the bottom.

I would have thought that the middle and certainly last radiator would take a lot longer to heat up than the first as you have essentially created a minature one pipe heating system in the bottom pic.
