On the end of the motorized valve is a slider, in the hot water only mode and the stat calling, is there any resistance when you push it from one side to the other.

There is no resistance on the slider at all, even with everything off the slider isn't returning like it usually does.
If I turn the heating off (via the h/w control) and just have the h/w control set to "on" all three wires from the cylinder stat become live but the heating starts If I set the heating control to "on"(via the h/w control)and the h/w control to "off" only the neutral wire from the cylinder stat only is live.

(It gets a bit confusing because the h/w control works the heating but i'm sure the above is correct. it is the only way to get the pump and boiler to work at the moment).

Alan, I double checked everything and it is all wired correctly from the information you have supplied, indicating that there is a fault.

I've attached the Honeywell book can you read through page 24-25 and PM me when done.

Once you have read it I'll go through it one at a time as before.

Can you post a pic showing the top of the motorized valve please.

Dave, Alan has taken the link between L & 1 out as it's putting a permanent live on the grey.

I'll get him to do a few tests later, when he knows how to use the multimeter.

Any thoughts welcome.

Well Scruff, who would have thought that seeing as the heating was working fine before I put the new programmer on, that the motorised valve would go up the shoot as soon as the heating was switch back on.

Because we were trying to get the programmer working as that was the only thing that had been replaced, never considered the valve had stopped working.

Anyway its all sorted now and I won't have to replace the valve in the near future.

Thanks again for your help.
