Hi All

Im just putting in a new victorian fire in our property. The new Hearth is 2 inches in depth and the fireplace floor is 3 inches deep, meaning its currently an inch higher than the new hearth. Can anyone recommend if I should either knock out the current fireplace floor and re-cement to the level of the new hearth or should i prop the new herth up an inch (I can afford to do this as there is currently a wood floor with an inch depth that would hide any propping.

Not sure if that makes sense, but any thoughts appreciated!

James

EDIT* Decided to knock out the current fire base, should provide a far more solid finish!

Knocking it out is the best way by far - good decision :thumbleft:
