I have just renewed my Office PC and I have removed the McAfee that came with it and installed Free AVG. Now I seem to recall that the free AVG version does not have a Firewall but I cannot find how to check what security measures I have in place.

Can anyone give me the heads up please.

Thanks

DWD

What version of windows?

If it's 7 upwards, you want the security centre. https://www.top-windows-tutorials.com/c ... -firewall/

I use the built in firewall in Windows and defender, always have. I dislike all the noise and chatter of 3rd party stuff "hey, I'm working , I'm working - look at me!"

Hello Dewaltdisney
In windows 7 if you go to Control panel / Action Center/Security, it lists security settings including Windows Firewall on or off.
You may have to enable in Change Action Centre Settings (to the left ) to see it if not set up

Turn windows firewall on or off go into control panel/windows firewall. You can turn on windows defender in control panel as well

I found the same as Billygoat, that the free stuff is intrusive and so installed microsoft security essentials free following problems with avg being resource greedy and forever asking me to upgrade. I am sure that Defender would be ok
I also run malwarebytes occasionally to check but it hasn't found anything worthwhile.Again it has a habit of loading itself into start programmes and slowing the pc down if you let it following updates

Thanks chaps, it is a new HP desk top PC with a Windows 10 system. I had a look and found the Windows Defender and it was already on and running. It is currently chugging through loads of updates.

Cheers

Jn 2017, Kaspersky became the subject of controversy in the United States, over allegations that the company has engaged with the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB), in the wake of Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election. The U.S. Department of Homeland Security subsequently banned Kaspersky products from all government departments on 13 September 2017. The company has denied that it has direct ties with or has engaged with the Russian government.[9] On October 5th The Wall Street Journal published an article saying hackers working for the Russian government stole confidential data from an NSA contractor’s home computer.[10]
