We have an open fireplace with a regular light socket fitted within the chimney breast. We would like to have a open fire in the winter so I'd like to know if there is such a thing as a flameproof/heat resistant light fitting that we can change our present one for.
The distance between the hearth, where we will have a fire basket, and the light fitting is aprox 52"
The light fitting isn't visible so it doesn't matter what it looks like.

Go to a scrapyard and recover a light that goes inside an oven, with its high temperature wires. That might work for you, but if it doesn't, it won't have cost you much.
