Need your help. I have some patching up to do but one of the holes is a large hole left from a heater that had a vent going to the outside wall. This hole is a circular hole that is approx 15cm wide but about 20cm deep.

My question is how do i fill this large hole, it doesnt lead to the outside wall now as there has been an extension built outside which blocks off the hole but as the hole is the depth of a wall what do i fill in with until i get to the stage where i can attach a piece of plasterboard. is it a wise idea to fill with a suitable sized brick and cement in place, then attach the plasterboard to that and skim finish? or is this the wrong approach. any help is much appreciated, thanks.

Trim it up and fill it with brick as you said.

If it's not a cavity wall you could simply fill with expanding foam and cut it flush when cured, then you can you will be able to plaster or make good

If its a solid wall - ditto Thescruff

If its a cavity wall:

Get a timber batten slightly wider than the hole, fit a screw temporarily in the middle as a handle. Position it in the hole and screw plasterboard screws through the plasterboard into the batten about 1" either side of the opening. You've then got a base to glue/screw a suitable sized piece of P/P onto. Then just tape & skim
